KnitCircus Header

Hi, and thanks for your interest in submitting to Knitcircus!
We accept knitting patterns, small-scale sewing patterns and tutorials, recipes, and fibercraft project tutorials (needlefelting, repurposing linens, etc). Designers retain all rights to their projects three months following magazine release.

  • Knitting Patterns: The patterns must be your original work and not previously offered as a free pattern, in print or download form. We prefer first North American print rights, but will consider patterns that have been for sale (e.g. on your blog, site or Etsy store). The pdf of our Knitcircus Pattern Guidelines is available for download on this page.

  • Photos: all photos must be of good print quality (300 dpi), and clothes on models should reflect the season the magazine will be in print. We are happy to photograph items with our models if you wish to send them to us. Photos are good, the more the better! We may not be able to use all of your pics, but appreciate having a range to choose from!
  • Sewing patterns and fibercraft projects: if you are proficient in Illustrator, please send clear line drawings of any special steps or procedures. Photos or hand-drawn images will help us render drawings if you are not able to provide your own print-ready drawings.

  • Deadlines:
    Issue 7 (August '09): June, 1, '09
    Issue 8 (October '09): August 1, '09

  • Compensation: you get a bundle of our gratitude, a small honorarium, professional technical editing, complimentary issue featuring your pattern, a free ad spot for your blog/business/store, and exposure to our readers. As of Issue #6, we printed 1000 copies of the magazine, which were split between subscribers and yarn stores.

As we continue to grow, we will increase the monetary compensation to our designers. Right now, it's mostly a labor of love.
